EU-Balkan-FABNET considers training as an efficient tool to enhance the quantity and quality of the participation of researchers from the Western Balkan region in FP7 projects. It is ambitiously envisaged that through training the involvement efforts of research groups from the Western Balkans will be better planned and more focused, while researchers in newly selected projects will gain a better understanding of the underlying project management mechanisms and the potential given for knowledge exploitation and future development.

The foreseen training agenda is – inevitably – both diverse, so as to cover a wide variety of FP7-relevant topics, and flexible, so as to address specific needs of the local audiences. There are two kind of training events scheduled: Training workshops addressing an audience of information multipliers and workshops tailored to the needs of researchers or other potential project participant groups. In each of the Western Balkan countries there will be one workshop addressing information multipliers and two workshops addressing researchers. Indicative workshop topics include:

• Information on the background of FP7, including when needed, references to EU policies
  
  
• Information on the structure of the FAB Theme, the concept of the Knowledge Based Bio- Economy (KBBE), the content of the workprogramme and details on current calls.
  
  
• Financial and legal aspects of the participation in FP7 projects.
  
  
• Project management.
  
  
• Interacting with and benefiting from Technology Platforms with relevance to the FAB Theme.
  
• Good practices on proposal preparation.
  
  
• Good practices on approaching different target audiences and disseminating FP7 information, e.g. university researchers vs. SMEs.
  
  
• Good practices in helping networking between potential participants and improving support during the proposal preparation phase or the use of “tools” outside of the FAB area, such as Marie-Curie actions, which can set the basis for lasting research cooperation.

All training events organised by EU-Balkan-FABNET, which will be advertised here well in advance, will also offer the opportunity for dialogue and networking as they will involve not only speakers from the consortium partners but also invited lecturers.
